Open Area Safety Nets

Open area safety nets are used to provide fall protection, bird exclusion, or debris catching across large unenclosed spaces — car parks, atriums, loading bays, sports areas, and building voids. These large-span installations require a structural approach that differs from residential balcony netting, using engineered support systems capable of handling the load across wide spans without intermediate support columns.

The structural system for open area nets typically comprises a wire rope grid suspended from perimeter anchor points fixed to the building structure. The net is attached to this rope grid, which distributes load evenly across all anchors. For very large spans, additional intermediate support points may be required and are engineered based on the calculated net weight and anticipated dynamic load from wind and bird activity.
