Staircase Safety Nets

Staircase safety nets cover the open void of multi-storey staircases — the vertical gap between stair flights and landings from which objects can fall and where children can reach through railings that have gaps exceeding safe dimensions. In apartment buildings with open staircase shafts, a correctly installed safety net prevents falls from any floor level.

Staircase net installations use a tensioned mesh system fitted horizontally at each floor level under the landing or stair flight, or vertically along the open side of the staircase where the gap between railing balusters exceeds 100mm. The net is typically 25mm HDPE mesh rated for dynamic falling object loads and tensioned on a border rope system anchored to the landing slab edge.

For buildings undergoing renovation or construction, staircase safety nets also serve as debris containment nets — catching falling tools, materials, and objects before they can injure workers or residents on lower floors. This dual safety function makes staircase net installation a standard requirement on most construction sites in the region.
